How do counseling (pastoral or other types of therapy) and spiritual direction complement each other? I'll add more thoughts and resources as I find them.

I feel the need to add to this that spiritual direction is not INTENDED to be primarily about crisis-management, that the regularity over time of meeting (at least monthly) with a spiritual director is a spiritual practice (as are prayer and regular time in Scripture) that can help build resilience for daily living and for when a spiritual crisis occurs.
