One
of the most important spiritual disciplines for me has become staying
in/returning to the present moment, in body, mind, and spirit. As I have learned to deal with my own anxieties,
this has become a really helpful way to stay focused on THIS MOMENT.
As
soon as you become aware of your anxiety, in your mind or in your body, here is
a simple exercise to try:
1. Put
both feet flat on the floor.
2. Wiggle
your toes for a few seconds. Feel the floor under your shoes.
3. Take
a deep breath in and out.
4. Raise
your hands and offer up to God whatever is concerning you in that moment.
5. Repeat
as often as necessary.
(P.S.
My toes became VERY strong as I practiced this!)
Nancy Waldo, St. Mary’s Woods
Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have
you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of
the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his
understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the
powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will
fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their
strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and
not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Prayer suggestion:
When you go to the Lord
in prayer today, in addition to praying for protection for your health and that
of your loved ones, add a prayer for those who do not have the kind of
resources that we do.
